President Trump meets with GOP Lawmakers and Top Business Executives in Washington; Floats Removing Federal Income Tax
President Trump traveled to Washington D.C. on Thursday to take part in a series of meetings on Capitol Hill and attend a business roundtable with top executives.
Trump started his morning at the Capitol Hill Club, meeting with members of the House on a joint invitation. Speaker Mike Jonhson, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Majority Whip Tom Emmer, and House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik along with many other GOP lawmakers were in attendance.
According to Speaker Johnson, Trump and GOP Lawmakers discussed growing the House Republican majority and the 2025 legislative agenda.
Next on the agenda was meeting with an association of more than 200 CEO’s of America’s leading companies.
This event was named as a Business Roundtable where Mr. Trump shared his vision for a more prosperous economy and highlighting Joe Biden’s disastrous economic policies.
White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients attended the roundtable to defend President Biden’s economic track record.
After the roundtable, Trump headed back into the nation’s capital building to meet with Senate Republicans.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was in attendance, telling media that President Trump earned the nomination by the voters. This was will be the first time McConnell and Trump have met since December in 2020.
During Trump’s meeting in the Capitol Hill club, the former President floated the idea of imposing an “all tariff policy” which would consist of eliminating a federal income tax and replacing the revenue with aggressive tariffs on other countries.
President Trump also discussed using the all tariff policy to leverage negotiating power of bad actors, something that he is familiar with from his first term in office.
Long time ally and influential conservative commentator @DC_Draino, said that if “Trump eliminates the federal income tax, I will dedicate the rest of my life to ensuring his face gets on Mt. Rushmore.”
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), said that this was the most intriguing idea that came out of the GOP meeting at the Capitol Hill club.
Advocates for eliminating the federal income tax say that it would create an economic boom the likes of which our country has never seen.
By eliminating the tax, individuals would have a surplus in disposable income, in turn boosting consumer spending and stimulating economic growth.
After concluding his busy day in Washington, Trump posted on Truth Social that it was a “Great meeting with Republican Representatives. Lots discussed, all positive, great poll numbers!”
Trump’s swing through Capitol Hill marked his first return to the capitol since Jan, 6th 2021.
