Speaker Johnson Announces Bipartisan Task Force as House Committee on Homeland Security investigates Trump Assassination Attempt

On Monday, House Speaker Mike Johnson announced the creation of a Bipartisan House Task Force to investigate the attempted assassination of Donald Trump.

Seven Republicans will serve on this task force including Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee Mark Green and Representative Kelly, the Congressman from Butler, PA where the assassination attempt took place.

Representative Clay Higgins will also serve on the task force, a former U.S. Army staff sergeant who serves on the Homeland Security and Oversight Committees.

Johnson said in a statement on X that, “We have the utmost confidence in this group of steady, highly qualified, and capable Members of Congress.”

As Johnson assembles his team to investigate the assassination attempt, the House Committee on Homeland Security is busy conducting their own investigation.

Last week, Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee Mark Green led a delegation of Committee members to the site of the July 13th campaign rally.

A press release from the Committee shows that Chairman Green subpoenaed Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for documents regarding the failed security efforts surrounding the incident.

The press release stated that, “DHS failed to satisfy the subpoena’s July 26th deadline and remains delinquent in producing the compelled documents.” 

After members of the Committee visited the campaign rally site, a hearing was held with Colonel Christopher Paris, commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police.

In this hearing, Representative Eli Crane of Arizona reflected on his visit to the site and the many security failures he noticed as a former sniper for the Navy SEALs. 

Crane showed a video he took of the site where he noted that the roof of the building where the assassin took his shot was not steep and could have easily been manned with secret service.

Representative Crane’s video also showed that an elevated water tower overseeing the roof was unmanned as well as unmanned windows that had line of site to the shooters roof.

Craned asked Colonel Paris, “Who made the decision not to put a counter sniper team on the tallest structure on the site with 360-degree surveillance?” Paris responded, “I do not.”

Eli Crane continued with a different line of questioning where he asked Colonel Paris about the investigation conducted on the shooter’s home.

Crane suggested that law enforcement sources had provided him with information that the shooter’s home lacked silverware, trash, and was scrubbed clean like a medical lab.

Representative Crane ended his remarks by highlighting a Washington Post article that compared Donald Trump to Hitler, saying that articles like this justify the failed assassination attempt on Former President Donald Trump.
